Players Compete for the Opportunity to Win $5,000

GRAPEVINE, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 17, 2008--GameStop, Corp. (NYSE:GME), the world's largest video game and entertainment software retailer, today announced that it will host Madden NFL '08 video game tournaments at more than 3,000 of its U.S. GameStop locations on Saturday, July 19, 2008. The tiered tournament program is one of several "Madden Mania" events GameStop will host surrounding the launch of Madden NFL '09 by Electronic Arts, available August 12, 2008.

The single-elimination tournament will provide players with the chance to test their skills one-on-one against other contestants to determine the more than 3,000 store winners. Many of the participating GameStop locations will begin their tournaments at 2:00 p.m., local time; however, customers are encouraged to contact their local store to confirm the exact time of the tournament. All contestants must check-in at least thirty minutes prior to the start of play.

Store winners will advance to a series of District tournaments on July 26; winners of these competitions will advance to the Regional finals, which will take place on August 9 (visit http://www.gamestop.com/maddenmania for District and Regional tournament location details). The top four scoring Regional finalists will advance to the championship event, to be held on September 13, 2008, at the GameStop tournament store in San Jose, CA. Finalists will tackle the competition in a series of matches on Madden NFL '09 until one player is left standing. The Grand Prize winner will receive $5,000 in cash and the runner-up will receive a limited edition Madden NFL '09 Xbox 360 console.
