GRAPEVINE, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 27, 2009--
GameStop Corp. (NYSE:GME), the world’s largest video game and
entertainment software retailer, announced it is planning to hire
approximately 15,000 seasonal part-time game advisors between now and
Dec. 24, 2009, to fill open positions at its 4,300 stores in the United
States. This number will increase the company’s total headcount by
approximately 46 percent and the in-store game advisor headcount by
approximately 78 percent. These numbers are consistent with GameStop’s
seasonal hiring efforts in 2008 and 2007.
“The end of the year historically represents a large part of our
company’s annual sales, and 2009 is not expected to be any different,”
said Marissa Andrada, GameStop’s senior vice president of human
resources. “The launches of several highly anticipated blockbuster video
game titles such as Call of Duty/Modern Warfare 2, Assassin’s Creed
II and the Wii Fit Plus combined with the recent price
reductions for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii gaming consoles are
expected to create a lot of store traffic from customers seeking out
GameStop’s unparalleled customer service, value and selection.”
Interested applicants 16 years of age or older should pick up
applications at their neighborhood GameStop store. Previous retail
experience is preferred, but not required. Training will be provided,
but applicants should be knowledgeable about video games and video game
equipment in order to fulfill their role as valued customer advisors.
Game advisors should be available to work flexible hours, thrive in a
fast-paced retail environment and enjoy helping people find fun and
affordable holiday gift solutions. Benefits include an employee discount
on software purchases as well as the ability to try out new games in
order to better assist customers.
