LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 19, 2006--GameStop Corp. (NYSE: GME; GME.B), the world's largest video game and entertainment software retailer, kicked off the Gears of War Exhibition Tournament in Las Vegas last night with a celebrity match-up for charity. The event paired up TNA Wrestling star Samoa Joe, who warmed up for what is being called the "Match of the Decade" against Kurt Angle at the "Genesis" Pay Per View event this Sunday, and the Ultimate Fighting Championship star Forrest Griffin with Major League gamers to find out who could rise above the others to be crowned GameStop Gears of War Champion. The stars and professional gamers put up their best guns to battle it out for their favorite charity raising $10,000. Samoa Joe and MLG Pro Gandi won the match-up earning $6,000 for the Autism Society of America and Forrest Griffin was the runner-up earning $4,000 for the USO.

In celebration of the GEARS OF WAR video game launch, GameStop is pulling out all the stops throughout November and December, making a big splash at the 2006 MLG Championship event in Las Vegas. GameStop is sponsoring the Gears of War Exhibition Tournament which kicked-off in Las Vegas last night right after the GameStop Charity Challenge-Celebrity Match. The tournament features a winning prize purse of $5,000. Eight teams, each of which has an MLG pro will compete in a single elimination/bracketed tournament.
