GameStop’s Trade-In Weekend Combines Best Value, Greatest Flexibility and Most Convenience

September 12, 2014

Many Special Offers for Current iPhone® Consumers Planning to Upgrade

GRAPEVINE, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sep. 12, 2014-- To celebrate the highly anticipated launch of the iPhone® 6 and iPhone® 6 Plus, GameStop (NYSE: GME) is hosting a Trade-In Weekend, Sept. 19-21, to provide extra value in order to make consumers’ favorite technologies affordable and simple. Consumers are invited to take advantage of special offers during this three-day event by stopping by any of the 4,200 convenient GameStop locations nationwide, visiting www.gamestop.com, or www.buymytronics.com, GameStop’s online consumer electronics trade-in platform.

“A recent comScore study indicated that up to 35 percent of iPhone® owners are planning to purchase an iPhone® 6 within the next six months*,” said Ram Krishnamurthy, senior director of pre-owned consumer electronics at GameStop. “We invite them to stop by during our Trade-In Weekend and learn firsthand that GameStop and buymytronics.com offer among the best prices people can receive for their pre-owned electronics.”

Significant Pre-Owned Equipment Value Untapped in Most Families

GameStop research indicates that, on average, most families own three to five devices representing between $200 and $500 in trade-in value. For example, consumers may receive the following amounts for trading in their pre-owned equipment in good condition at any of our retail brands:

  • Up to $300 store credit for an iPhone® 5S
  • Up to $220 store credit for an iPhone® 5
  • Up to $102 store credit for a Samsung Galaxy S®4

For a complete list of trade-in values, consumers may download GameStop’s mobile app on iOS and Android devices or visit www.gamestop.com/devicetrader.

According to Krishnamurthy, consumers like the convenience, flexibility and security of GameStop’s trade-in program where they trade in their games and electronics to convert those into a unique form of currency. GameStop and GameStop’s family of specialty retail brands including Simply Mac, Spring Mobile, Cricket Wireless and buymytronics.com, allow customers to exchange their pre-owned phones and other electronics at a competitive value for cash, store credit or gift cards depending on the type of location. All devices are factory-reset and wiped of all data immediately at the time of trade-in. As an additional safeguard, the company follows a rigorous, multi-step process at its refurbishment center to ensure any remaining personal data is removed from the devices.

The popularity of the trade-in program is evident by the more than 1.2 million devices traded in each year resulting in more than $120 million in cash and trade-in credit were given out to customers for their consumer electronics.
