GameStop to make Black Friday shopping easier for customers by hosting weeklong events full of deals

Stores to open at 5 a.m. on Black Friday and offer deals only available at GameStop

GRAPEVINE, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 12, 2015-- GameStop, a family of specialty retail brands that makes the most popular technologies affordable and simple, announced today that once again its U.S. stores will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday. GameStop’s Technology Brands: Spring Mobile, Simply Mac and its Cricket Wireless stores, and the new ThinkGeek retail store will also be closed on Thanksgiving Day. The decision is part of the specialty retailer’s core values of ‘Protecting the Family’ and doing the right thing to disrupt the emerging trend in the retail industry of taking away holidays from customers and associates.

“We believe strongly that our customers and associates should have the opportunity to spend the Thanksgiving holiday relaxing with family and friends, and not worrying with the stress of where to find the best shopping deals. We know this is in stark contrast to what many other retailers are doing, but we are taking a stance to protect family time during this important holiday,” said Mike Buskey, executive vice president and president of U.S. Stores. “For our customers who want to do a little shopping on Thanksgiving Day, www.gamestop.com and www.thinkgeek.com will be open all day and taking orders.”

This year GameStop will open all U.S. stores at 5 a.m. local time on Black Friday. To accommodate its customers for being closed on Thanksgiving Day, the video game retailer will be hosting events before, during and after what has become a holiday shopping tradition. GameStop will feature new and pre-owned video game hardware, software and accessory exclusives, and collectible products that can only be found at GameStop. According to Buskey, “This year GameStop will be offering bigger and better Black Friday deals than we have ever offered before. So enjoy Thanksgiving Day with family and friends, and be sure to stop by one of our stores before and on Black Friday to get some great offers!”
