GameStop to help raise more than $500,000 for the treatment and
research of childhood cancer
GRAPEVINE, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 4, 2013--
GameStop (NYSE: GME), the world’s largest multichannel retailer of video
games, announced today a partnership with St. Jude Children’s Research
Hospital®. As a part of the partnership, GameStop has set a
goal to raise at least $500,000 in charitable donations for the annual
St. Jude Thanks and Giving® campaign, which
involves an unprecedented union of celebrities, media, retail and
corporate brands, that come together to ask consumers to donate while
they shop during the holiday season and join St. Jude in finding cures
and saving children.
Joining in the fight against deadly childhood illnesses, GameStop is
excited to participate in the St. Jude Thanks and Giving®
campaign for the first time this year. “At GameStop, we are passionate
about giving back in our communities, and this is an excellent way for
us to provide children with a better quality of life,” said Tony Bartel,
president of GameStop. “Being a father of six children, I can honestly
say that the work St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is doing is
nothing short of miraculous. I have no doubt that we will exceed our
goal this year and I’m looking forward to a long and successful
partnership with St. Jude."
St. Jude is leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats
childhood cancer and other deadly diseases. Created by Marlo, Terre and
Tony Thomas – children of St. Jude founder Danny Thomas – the St. Jude Thanks
and Giving® campaign began as a holiday-focused
fundraising effort and has grown into an annual tradition that has
raised more than $387 million for research and treatment in the ongoing
battle to end childhood cancer.
“We are so thrilled to welcome GameStop into our St. Jude Thanks and
Giving family,” said Marlo Thomas, national outreach director for
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. “Thanks to the generous support
of partners like GameStop and its patrons, we can continue my father
Danny Thomas’ promise that no family ever pays St. Jude for anything.”
Customers who shop at GameStop beginning November 6, 2013, until
December 24, 2013, will have the opportunity to donate $1 to the
children at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. GameStop and St. Jude
Children’s Research Hospital are asking the public to, "Give thanks for
the healthy kids in your life, and give to those who are not.”

About St. Jude:
Since opening more than 50 years ago, St. Jude Children’s Research
Hospital has changed the way the world treats childhood cancer and other
life-threatening diseases. No family ever pays St. Jude for the care
their child receives and, for every child treated here, thousands more
have been saved worldwide through St. Jude discoveries. The hospital has
played a pivotal role in pushing U.S. pediatric cancer survival rates
from 20 to 80 percent overall, and is the first and only National Cancer
Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center devoted solely to
children. It is also a leader in the research and treatment of blood
disorders and infectious diseases in children. St. Jude was founded by
the late entertainer Danny Thomas, who believed that no child should die
in the dawn of life. Join that mission by visiting stjude.org
