GameStop and its family of retail brands aim to raise $1 million
to help advance research and treatment of childhood cancer and other
life threatening diseases
The specialty retailer invites customers and associates to “give
thanks” this holiday season by participating in the annual in-store and
online donation effort
GRAPEVINE, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 28, 2015--
GameStop, a family of specialty retail brands that makes the most
popular technologies affordable and simple, announced today that it will
again partner with St.
Jude Children’s Research Hospital® for the St.
Jude Thanks and Giving® campaign to help advance
research and treatment of childhood cancer. As part of the annual
fundraising effort, GameStop will invite their customers and associates
to donate to this important cause while shopping in-store and online
this holiday season.
This is GameStop’s third consecutive year participating in the campaign.
Since first joining the annual holiday fundraising event, the company
has raised more than $1.5 million thanks to the donations and support of
its customers and associates. This year, GameStop aims to raise another
$1 million for St. Jude. These funds are crucial given that no family
ever receives a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or
food – because all a family should worry about is helping their child
live.
“What better way to help spread the holiday cheer this year than to
donate to such an amazing charity as St. Jude Children’s Research
Hospital,” said Matt Hodges, Vice President of Public and Investor
Relations for GameStop. “Since first partnering with St. Jude three
years ago, our team of passionate associates has continued to
demonstrate the giving spirit of GameStop by inviting customers to
contribute to St. Jude. Through the generous donations given each year
by our customers, we have been able to help the patients and families of
St. Jude.”
Beginning November 1 and running through the end of the year, customers
can stop by any GameStop,
Simply
Mac, or Spring
Mobile AT&T stores to make a donation. Customers can also donate
at the newly opened ThinkGeek store located in The Florida Mall, in
Orlando, Florida. Additionally, customers may donate online at www.gamestop.com,
or can learn more about the St. Jude Thanks and Giving®
campaign by visiting GameStop’s mobile game publishing subsidiary
Kongregate’s website at www.kongregate.com,
or its Game Informer magazine website at www.gameinformer.com.
As a ‘thank you’ to customers who donate $1 or more, this year GameStop
is offering triple PowerUp Reward points, an extra 10% trade-in value
for all Xbox One and PlayStation 4 games traded in and a 25% discount on
a custom Skin-It sleeve design.
“I am so grateful for GameStop’s continued dedication to helping the
children and families of St. Jude,” said Marlo Thomas, National Outreach
Director for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. “GameStop’s
participation in the St. Jude Thanks and Giving campaign makes it
easy for its customers to help our doctors and scientists continue the
research and treatment that leads to cures and gives these children the
chance to enjoy many more holidays for years to come.”
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is leading the way the world
understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other
life-threatening diseases. Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped
push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20 percent to more
than 80 percent since it opened more than 50 years ago, and they won’t
stop until no child dies from cancer. The hospital freely shares the
breakthroughs it makes, so every child saved at St. Jude means doctors
and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more
children.
Created by Marlo, Terre and Tony Thomas – children of St. Jude founder
Danny Thomas – the St. Jude Thanks and Giving campaign asks
people to “Give thanks for the healthy kids in your life, and give to
those who are not” in order to help St. Jude continue its mission of
finding cures and saving children.
