through the holiday season

GRAPEVINE, Texas, Oct. 11, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- GameStop, a family of specialty retail brands that makes the most popular technologies affordable and simple, today revealed its plan to hire more than 15,000 seasonal associates nationwide as the company prepares for the 2018 holiday shopping season.

To manage the anticipated increase in consumer spending this holiday season*, the company is currently recruiting for more than 15,000 retail sales positions within its more than 3,800 GameStop video game and more than 40 ThinkGeek pop culture U.S. store locations. These roles are critical for providing exceptional service during the holidays as the company gears up to provide guests the most sought-after video game and pop culture items on everyone’s wish list.

“Providing exceptional customer service is the cornerstone of our GameStop and ThinkGeek brands’ promise to serving as The Destination for the hottest video game titles, consoles and accessories, as well as the latest toys and pop culture fandom merchandise,” said Lisa Keglovitz, senior vice president of human resources for GameStop. “With consumers expected to increase their holiday spending this year by five percent according to the PwC’s 2018 Holiday Outlook report, we are ramping up seasonal staff levels to meet the needs of our guests this holiday season.”

New this year, GameStop is offering a “Holiday Thank You” recruiting incentive that will pay a one-time holiday bonus that equals one week of additional pay after the holidays to all video game store associates (current and new seasonal hires) who work through the Oct. 21 to Jan. 8 holiday season.

“We are getting ready for what looks to be one of the strongest holiday seasons we’ve seen in a long time, one filled with an amazing line-up of video game titles, consoles and accessories,” said Mark Qualls, vice president of store operations for GameStop. “As a way of saying ‘thank you’ to all our hard-working store associates, we are going to give them an extra week’s pay this holiday season, and who couldn’t use a little extra cash during this time of year?”

In addition to the retail sales roles, the company also is recruiting for more than 400 warehouse positions within its two distribution centers based in Grapevine, Texas, and Louisville, Kentucky.

GameStop’s recruiting efforts for identifying and hiring talented, hardworking and passionate employees for this holiday season are scheduled to start in the next few days and continue until the end of October. Interested applicants should visit the GameStop Careers website for a list of available jobs, descriptions, qualifications and application details.

Seasonal jobs will begin Oct. 21 to Jan. 8, with many seasonal hires becoming permanent associates. Each position will offer part-time, flexible work schedules during the week that include the potential for up to 10-25 hours of work weeknights, weekends and days. In addition, all seasonal associates will receive a 15 percent discount on select merchandise purchases at GameStop, as well as its Spring Mobile, Simply Mac and ThinkGeek stores and online.
