GameStop Celebrates 'Mutton Chop Madness'

April 22, 2009
Invites Fans to Don Sideburns in Honor of X-Men Origins: Wolverine Video Game Release
GRAPEVINE, Texas, Apr 22, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Killer claws. Accelerated healing powers. Animal instincts. All elements of the Wolverine mystique, however, nothing even comes close to those legendary sideburns. In honor of Wolverine's most distinguishable trait - his mutton chops - GameStop (NYSE:GME), the world's largest video game and entertainment software retailer, today announced a nationwide search for the best sideburns to celebrate the launch of the X-Men Origins: Wolverine video game releasing on May 1, 2009.

Fans are invited to grow sideburns of their own and post a photo of themselves to GameStop.com/mutton to face off against other hairy competitors across the country. One winner will be announced each week between April 22, 2009 and May 22, 2009, and each will receive a $100 GameStop gift card. Hairy or not, all fans are encouraged to participate in the fun by visiting the web site to access a do-it-yourself link to sideburns that can be printed out for those unable or unwilling to grow chops of their own. Real or fake - any sideburn photo could be a winner!

"At GameStop, we are always looking for fun, unique ways to celebrate title launches," said Bob McKenzie, Senior Vice President of Merchandising for GameStop. "We couldn't think of a better way to recognize one of the most celebrated comic book - and now video game - heroes of all time, Wolverine, than by inviting fans across the country to pay tribute to his famous chops in their own way."
