GameStop and Sony Computer Entertainment America Power Up to Support Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC®)

April 20, 2015

Exclusive PlayStation®4 (PS4™) bundles will be donated to 180 Ronald McDonald Houses across the U.S.

GRAPEVINE, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Apr. 20, 2015-- Today, GameStop, a family of specialty retail brands that makes the most popular technologies affordable and simple, in conjunction with Sony Computer Entertainment America, announced plans to donate a PlayStation®4 (PS4™) gaming bundle to all Ronald McDonald Houses located in the United States.

“We have been working with the RMHC team for more than six years,” said Matt Hodges, vice president of public and investor relations, GameStop. "Whether they are preparing a meal or delivering the latest video games and systems, the GameStop family enjoys giving back to this organization and the families they support in any way we can.”

GameStop and Sony Computer Entertainment America will provide PS4 bundles to the 180 U.S. Ronald McDonald Houses in the hopes of bringing some additional joy to families in need. The bundles will consist of a PS4, extra DualShock®4 Wireless Controller, and game titles including Little Big Planet 3, DRIVECLUB, and MLB® 15 The Show™ and more – all benefitting an estimated 500,000 families.

“When families come to a Ronald McDonald House, they are going through an extremely difficult, trying period,” said Chip McTighe, director of sales, Sony Computer Entertainment America. “Our hope is by teaming up with GameStop we can help add some fun to the homes and bring excitement and laughter to families when they need it most.”

Research has shown that having family close by when a child is in the hospital and going through treatment can help them cope better with the stress of illness. It also keeps families close and connected with medical staff to better adhere to treatment plans for children.

“We are extremely thankful to GameStop and PlayStation for providing game consoles to Ronald McDonald Houses across the country,” said Sheila Musolino, vice president and chief operating officer, RMHC. “Our Houses allow families to support their children every step of the way. And, play areas in each House allow children experiencing similar situations to play together helping them cope with the trauma of their illness.”

RMHC provides comfort and care to nearly nine million children annually through a network of 300 local Chapters in 60 countries and regions around the world. RMHC, family-centered core programs help support families being cared for at 89 percent of the world’s top children’s hospitals helping provide a bridge to medical care.
